With a beautiful day, gifted to us by Roberto, the 14th annual Spagnolli Bazzoni Onlus Golf Tournament was another great success!

On Thursday 11th June, 27 teams togged out in their golf attire to challenge the 18-hole championship golf course at Killeen Castle. The weather was spectacular and the sun shone down on us for the entire day, giving Catherine and Sharon the tough job of sunburn prevention for all our players!

The scores this year were very impressive, and very tight, with just one point separating 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Blackrock took first place with their team of Anders Hansen, Adam Browne and Bruce Harrison. Pioneer Investments came a very close second on 79 points, with Tim O’Hara, Derek Arnold and Andrew Stevenson and third place went to our returning HSBC team, who have been on the leader board every year. Well done to their team of Ronan O’Reilly, Brian Treacy and Stephen Cassidy on 78 points.

With just two ladies in the tournament this year, it was a tough battle for best lady, with Pioneer Investments’ Liesel Hall winning in the end. The longest drive went to Kevin O’Leary for Asystec and the nearest to pin was won by Mark Fagan for BT. Congratulations to all the winners.

The Spagnolli-Bazzoni Onlus is delighted to have such generous supporters whom we now consider good friends, and who return year after year! Every year we welcome new and old faces and are always pleasantly surprised at your kindness and generosity. This year we raised in excess of €40,000. A special thank you goes to our Gold Sponsor Pioneer Investments, whose unwavering support is invaluable.

The auction and raffle proved very exciting with some ruthless bidding for our top prizes; the trip to Rome and the 2 fantastic paintings! We would like to thank all those who entered a bid on the auction items and who bought raffle tickets. A particular thanks must go to all the companies who generously donated the fantastic prizes, your support helps to make this event such a superb success year on year. With no administrative costs, all the contributions will go directly to the people in Zimbabwe who need it the most.

In Zimbabwe the SBO continues to treat in excess of 1,000 patients affected by AIDS. The project supports patients and their families, giving them the means to live as “normal” a life as possible.

The school that was build in 2014 in the San Marcellino Village, continues to expand, and this year three new classrooms were built for the young students.

Finally, the project for the prevention of cervical cancer has been very successful and over 10,000 women have already been screened in just 18 months.

These projects have been recognised by the National Health System, and they are now extending their services to help the SBO projects.

We sincerely hope you enjoyed the day and we look forward to seeing you all again next year!
