On 31 October 2007 we came together in a joint effort to confront a devastating disease, and to help those who suffer with it in the most difficult of circumstances.
We were honoured to have six Gold Sponsors (Citi, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, Lehman Brothers, Societe Generale and Hedge Fund Managers), a silver sponsor (UBS), and a bronze sponsor (ABN Amro). Many of these, along with Pioneer Investments, our main sponsor, have stood in solidarity with us and our cause over the years. For this we are most grateful.
We are still receiving donations and can already say that together we have raised more than a staggering €560,000. This sum, free from any overheads, will go directly to our projects in Zimbabwe. It will help mobilise our staff on the ground to find solutions to the growing problems they face in this country. It will allow us to persist with what we are doing and to help these people wait, in good shape, for the day when normality can return to their country.
The Three Waiters stunned us into laughter with their sporadic bursts of song and flirtatious melodies. Gianluca Petrella soothed us with his quirky trombone solo, allowing us a moment to contemplate the strong messages left with us by Sebastiano Bazzoni, chairman of the Roberto Bazzoni Onlus, and Carlo Spagnolli, surgeon at the Luisa Guidotti Hospital. Amabutho sent us into the night with their Isicathamiya sounds and hope to welcome us back next year.
All those who took part in this event, attended, supported, organised or produced should be proud. We are saving lives and delivering hope.
