 |
Carlo Spagnolli M.D, the resident surgeon of the Luisa Guidotti Hospital, has received an Order of Merit from the Ambassador of Italy in Zimbabwe.
This Order of Merit (Cavaliere Ufficiale dell'Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana) was proposed by former Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi and granted to Dr. Spagnolli by Giorgio Napolitano, President of the Italian Republic.
“It was a wonderful and touching ceremony, especially when the Ambassador read the reasons why I was given this honor,” writes Dr. Spagnolli from Zimbabwe.
At the awards ceremony, the Ambassador, Mario Bologna, recognized the work Dr. Spagnolli has been doing in Zimbabwe since 1996 and his extensive and tireless efforts treating AIDS patients, especially women and their children. Also in the citation was mention of how hard Dr. Spagnolli’s been working to train other doctors and surgeons, but also recognition of the doctor’s great efforts on raising money all over the world to make possible some of the projects to help the most vulnerable part of the Zimbabwe population.
It is with the help of funds from the Roberto Bazzoni Onlus, and Pioneer Investments’ involvement with the Onlus, that is now treating over 1,700 patients at the Luisa Guidotti Hospital. Over $1.5 million has been raised for the patients.
In 2001, when the Onlus was founded, 60 patients were treated.
