"And be grateful!"

Arca Village Newsletter
Year 6 no. 56 – April 2005

 Dearest Friends,
as has happened on other occasions, just when closing the newsletter (like in those important newspapers) we were forced to revolutionize the planned edition in order to give you the latest news.
And this time it is THE news that we have all been waiting for for some time now. The children are back!!! If I was superstitious, I really should keep this news to myself, given that nothing has been put into black and white on any document yet. However things do seem to be going in this direction.

In short. After numerous attempts, we arrived at the compromise of signing a temporary custody contract between: Arca; the Management of the Orphanage; and the Minister for Social Justice, upon whom the children depend. This contract, with validity for a year, will give us the time, with the children at home, to finish gathering, searching out and amending the documents relating to each child, which will declare us official permanent guardians.

But even this temporary contract has not yet been signed by all of the parties. And then came the calendar to help us. As the first of May this year coincided with the celebrations of Orthodox Easter, we asked to take the children so that we could celebrate a little together.
Then in a week there will be big celebrations to mark the 60th Anniversary of the end of the war. We have declared an extended bank holiday between the 1st and the 9th of May. The moral of the story is that the 30th of April was a one way journey for the children. Just as it was for the past months, with the children repeatedly asking the same question “But when are we coming home?”, now all of them, without exception, have spent the past two days continually asking “But is it really true we don’t have to go back…there?” For some, the emotion was just too much, and became true hysteria, which needed a little time to be calmed. It was more than justifiable.
Now we start a new page in our family photo album, called “perestrojka”. It is immediately evident that it will be necessary to “rebuild” that which with much patience had been achieved over the years – from a physical as well as a psychological point of view. On a psychological level, the atmosphere of home, the presence of friends and the absence of that which surrounded them during the months spent at the orphanage will already have had a noticeable benefit. On a physical level, it is now necessary to reintegrate everything which has been missing during the last few months.
From the lack of fresh air (having been confined to a room for the most part of the time), of good food, of movement and for those who absolutely needed it, physical rehabilitation to avoid rendering futile the results of the medical care previously received. But we will certainly face these responsibilities which lie ahead with a renewed spirit and passion. To start with our now great friend Fulvia made us a giant meal. Even Fulvia, who is not new to initiatives of this kind and who knows our children for years now, was left stupefied by the receptive capacity of their little bodies, which stopped eating only after the last portion of desert was finished.

Yes, finally we are home. For this reason, please forgive me, if with a rapid gesture on the keyboard, I cancel the rest of what I had intended to tell you: the projects, the activities, the initiatives.
We will postpone all of that to the next newsletter and for now we will enjoy this moment in heavenly peace. The only exception I make is to insert a request by the President of “Arca Italia”, Roberto, who reminds all of those who require a Fiscal Declaration following donations made to the Arca, to send their request explicitly to one of the following email addresses (robertodepretis@sogecasrl.it or cristinacazzaniga@sogecasrl.it) specifying all fiscal details. For those who are making monthly transfers, the declaration will be made once at the end of the year. From now on you will find this specification pasted at the end of every newsletter for those who have missed this newsletter and await a declaration that has not been requested.
Thank you, thank you for having accompanied us through these months which, thanks be to God, are now just a bad memory. A huge hug from all of us
