The Roberto Bazzoni Onlus hosted a glittering gala dinner evening at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London on 25 November 2004 raising a staggering £125,564.22 which will go towards humanitarian efforts in Zimbabwe. The Raphael Gallery glowed with hues of bordeaux and gold and welcomed us into an evening of elegance and splendour while gentlemen of many moons ago looked down from gilded frames above.
Co-hosted by Citigroup, Lehman Brothers, and Pioneer Investments; it was both an enjoyable and touching evening. Sebastiano Bazzoni, Chairman of the Roberto Bazzoni Onlus, told us of those people with real faces and names whom he met on his trip to Zimbabwe. He explained how through the support of those attending the evening, a further 200 mothers and their children could be treated, thus enabling the charity to reach its goal of saving 1000 lives.
After a sumptuous meal, Rory Bremner induced some blushing as well as hearty laughter and knee slapping with his mischievous satire. Blood pressures rose when auctioneer Laurence McCabe took the stage and brought about some frenzied rallies over the much coveted auction lots. An impressive £28,350 was raised through the auction alone.
A most enjoyable evening, and most importantly: Goal achieved. Thanks to the generosity and support of the co-hosts, sponsors, generous donors and guests the objective of saving 1000 lives in Zimbabwe will be reached during this coming year.
