Paul R. Skolnik, M.D. and Davidson H. Hamer, M.D. have joined the Board of Directors of the Roberto Bazzoni Onlus – United States, Inc. They were appointed at the annual meeting held in Boston last week.

“We are honored and excited to have these two illustrious doctors join with us in our effort to save lives,” says Bill O’Grady, President of the US Onlus and Executive Vice President, Distribution and Sales and Pioneer Investments.

“These appointments give us additional bench strength and focus.”

Dr. Hamer is also collaborating with the World Health Organization on a multi-country study of neonatal diseases in sub-Saharan African and the Indian sub-continent. As a result of the various developing country projects, Dr. Hamer frequently has the opportunity to visit and assess health care facilities in Asia, Africa and South America.

The Roberto Bazzoni Onlus – United States, Inc. was founded in September 2001 to honor Roberto Bazzoni, eldest son of Sebastiano Bazzoni (an executive with UniCredito Italiano S.p.A.). Roberto, an orthopedic technician, perished in a plane crash while on a United Nations-sponsored humanitarian mission in 1999. He was on his way to Kosovo to assist those who had lost their limbs due to land mines and other war accidents.

The US Onlus, along with an Onlus in both Dublin and Milan, is a charitable initiative which has received strong support from UniCredito Italiano Group, with humanitarian projects underway in Kosovo, Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Kazakhstan. The focus of the US Onlus is the Luisa Guidotti Hospital in Mutoko, Zimbabwe where 600 patients currently are being treated, 120 of who are children. It is the only private hospital of its kind in that country treating AIDS patients for free.
