PriceWaterhouseCoopers have shown devout support to the Roberto Bazzoni Onlus over the past six years, as well as a rigid determination to have their name on the Roberto Bazzoni Onlus Charity Tag Rugby Tournament Perpetual Trophy.

This year, stealing the trophy from under the noses of Pioneer Investments’ team at the final – they accomplished their mission!

The event was held at Railway Union Sports Club, Sandymount, Co Dublin on 9 September 2006. Many new faces brought in by the annual sponsorship programme to which so many have so generously signed up. Heartfelt thanks to all the teams for their sportsmanship and generosity of spirit; to our Gold Sponsors: Pioneer Investments, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, HSBC and Societe Generale; to our Bronze Sponsors, ABN Amro and Goldensource and to our devout and determined supporters, PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

For the first year in the tournament’s tradition, the ladies got involved – clearly adding skill and sparkle. This is where PriceWaterhouseCoopers unveiled their secret weapon; Aoife Hogan – a Leinster Team player. Aoife took home the ladies’ highest try scorer prize with the highest points scored for tries overall. Newcomers, Goldensource arrived looking ferocious all dressed in black. Later admitting to in-office tag rugby training only two days before - their bowl final victory was impressive. Will they be up to the challenge next year?

The silver trophy momentarily became an oversized champagne flute later that evening during the revelries at the Burlington Hotel. Celebrations and commiserations then proceeded in Club Anabels until the early hours…

Special thanks to our dear old referee friends – Dermot Sheehan and Ciarán Byrne who once again this year gave up their personal time for the cause. Kindest thanks also to Simon Bewley and Aidan Walsh of the Irish Tag Rugby Association for their usual comprehensive and essential support. Tagdh Kurby kindly provided first aid care to the occasional injuries…and assured us also of his mid-wifery skills…just in case!

Sunshine and high spirits with an all hands-on-deck teamwork spirit – it was, as usual, a great day out. Our fundraising target of €35,000.00 net for charity was again met, and surpassed thanks to YOUR generosity. It makes all the difference. See you next year.
