The 2007 Roberto Bazzoni Onlus Charity Tag Rugby Tournament was the 7th of its kind. PriceWaterhouseCoopers has been with us for each of those seven years. Last year for the first time in this seven year history PWC took the victory and brought the trophy home with them. They did it again this year, beating Pioneer Investments in the final.
The event would not have been possible without our referees, Ciaran Byrne and Niall Maguire. Despite the tough job he has of laying down the law, Ciaran’s support at this event has now become an annual occurrence. Simon Bewley and Aidan Walsh of the Irish Tag Rugby Association must be thanked for their unrelenting support. Tagdh Kurby was back with us again this year. He had a sprained thumb and some scratches and bruises and a twisted ankle to attend to – an active day for everyone but nothing too serious!
Jarleth Regan joined us at the Burlington where he entertained us with poking fun at our ambitious and super organised sporting rivals, PWC. This is the last year we will hold the event at the Burlington - As the face of Dublin changes, this time next year the Burlington will be no more.
Further celebrations followed the evening meal. Any sore heads and creaky bones the following day can take comfort in the fact that over €40,000 was raised for Zimbabwe, where it is truly needed. Please take a look at Sebastiano’s presentation for an update on our work there.
The event was held at Railway Union Sports Club, Sandymount, Co Dublin on Saturday 8 September 2007.
